This is Not My Hat

Image result for this is not my hatKlassen, J. (2012).This is not My Hat. Boston: Candlewick.

The little fish has stolen a hat from a big fish and is going to hide in the tall plants. As he tells his plans, the illustrations show that the big fish has woken up, realized that his hat is gone, and is looking for the little fish. The story ends with the big fish leaving the tall plants with his hat on his head. We do not know what happened to the little fish, but we can guess!

It is the illustrations that make this such a fun book. As the little fish talks, the pictures show what is really happening and that is the humor in this book. This is a great book for inferencing. Students can use the illustrations to tell what the big fish is thinking and what he is going to do. They can also infer about what happens in the tall plants when we can't see. What would the big fish do to the little fish?
