Max, while wearing his wolf suit, creates enough mischief that his mother sends him to bed without supper. While in his room, it transforms into a forest and an ocean. Max sails across the ocean to where the wild things are. He becomes their king and they have a wild rumpus, but Max is lonely. He wants to be loved best of all. So he sails back and goes through the forest to his room, where he finds is dinner, hot.

This book is an essential part of every childhood. My mom read it to me as a child, and I have read it to my own children and to my classes. This idea that a child can be a wild thing and still be loved unconditionally by his/her mother is timeless. Children need to know that parents will always love them, no matter what they do or say. It is my go to book when I have a baby shower or birthday party to purchase a gift for. It's just one of those books every child should have.
